The Lovely and Unfortunate reasons we Love our Pets.
Queenie featured here with me at last year's Pride is my ride or die road dog! Just look at her full of pride and ready for 'whateva if she has to'. Actually, she was just surprised at my friends sudden move when snapping this pic, her tail wagging she snuggled up and melted into a back rub. Bitches, what cha gon do?
I decided in that moment I can, I must involve myself in ensuring there are safe and supportive spaces for animals.
Getting ready for Pride this year, I was scrolling through these images and this one got me to thinking about how much I love Queenie and how similar her life experience and my queer existence are. We both have chosen families, are fiercely loyal and maneuver a world in which what is vital to us can easily be considered expendable and treated flimsy.
"We have a bond and yes it is personal."
Seriously, there have been days when Queenie was my only friend. Lovin' on me when I could not see how to love myself. I rescued her from an abusive owner in my apartment complex. We have a bond and yes it is personal. But more than that, it is also political.
See Queenie, after all we've been through together deserves my thoughtful consideration 'about her life' and those like her: animals wild and domesticated. I decided in that moment I can, I must involve myself in ensuring there are safe and supportive spaces for animals.
That's why I'm so happy that the Coalition wants to support and to raise awareness and funds for pet adoption. I can easily donate and volunteer when it is convenient. It doesn't take a lot to make an impact, especially when you care and hey, I met some great new friends.
If this is your thing you can join me in helping to reduce animal suffering by placing endangered pets in good homes. Sign up for the Pet Care Committee.
